Cross-border healthcare (patient mobility) as well as the exercise of patient rights associated therewith are also regulated by Directive 2011/24/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011, as well as by national provisions of social security systems and the provisions of the Social Security Regulation (EC) 883/2004) and 987/2009 entitlement to benefits in kind. In Austria the Directive is implemented by the EU Patient Mobility Act (OJ 32/2014). On the following pages, you will find more precise information on the implementation of Directive 2011/24/EU and on framework conditions that you should be aware of for your planned treatment in another country or in Austria.

The National Contact Point for Patient Mobility is available to patients and health care providers for information on cross-border health care between Austria and other EU/EEA countries. You can write your inquiries by e-mail.
