Cross-border healthcare (patient mobility) as well as the exercise of patient rights associated therewith are also regulated by Directive 2011/24/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011, as well as by national provisions of social security systems and the provisions of the Social Security Regulation (EC) 883/2004 and 987/2009 entitlement to benefits in kind. In Austria the Directive is implemented by the EU Patient Mobility Act (OJ 32/2014).
